Fincel

In ‘The Raging Storm’ we learned that Finleap wasn’t as thrilled at joining ThunderClan as once thought. He desperately wants to be mates with Twigbranch and have kits with her. She doesn’t want kits, not yet at least, and she knows that if she decides to be mates with him he’ll assume she wants kits. Finleap is the third character in this series to be in a friendship with a main character and cause huge problems because they want to be mates with her. In this post I will go through Ashfur, Bumblestripe, and Finleap’s relationships and tell you how fucking terrible they really are (and continue to be). Also spoilers for ‘The Raging Storm’.

So we should start with Ashfur as he was the first asshole to get with a main character.

Ashfur was in love with Squirrelflight. They were friends and he wished to take it to the next level. Squirrelflight was interested in Brambleclaw however. She decided to become mates with Brambleclaw which greatly annoyed Ashfur.

later on ashfur sets up a trap with hawkfrost to kill firestar. firestar is his leader and squirrelflight’s father. the plan worked, kind of. hawkfrost did manage to kill firestar, but only once. and in turn was murdered by his half-brother, brambleclaw. ashfur’s part in the plan is never revealed. he got away with murdering his crush’s father.

anyway, even further on in the timeline, squirrelflight’s sister, leafpool, had kits but because she was a medicine cat she was not allowed to keep them so squirrelflight raised the kits herself with brambleclaw. even further along, there is a fire and during the fire hollyleaf, jayfeather, and lionblaze (leafpool’s kits) get trapped and squirrelflight goes to save them. before she can however, ashfur traps all four of them. to save her and her kits, squirrelflight admits that she did not birth jay, holly, and lion. ashfur, declares he’s going to reveal the secret at the next gathering. afraid, hollyleaf kills ashfur to stop him.

so did you get all that? ashfur was rejected so he killed his crush’s father, and then years later tried to kill her and her kids. what the fuck. this is not okay. and yet he doesn’t go to cat hell?? uh no. he murdered someone. this is canon. he MURDERED someone. because the dude’s daughter wouldn’t date him. what the everloving fuck.

on to bumblestripe! bumblestripe has had a crush on dovewing ever since they were apprentices. dovewing would always kindly reject him because she only ever thought of them as friends. this continued and continued throughout adulthood. sadly for dovewing, her peers would say things like “why are you always so mean to him?” and “i’d love it if I had a tom padding after me like you do!”

this is extremely damaging as it makes dovewing think that she’s wrong to not be mates with bumblestripe. her feelings are completely disregarded. it doesn’t matter to everyone else that she doesn’t want to be mates with bumblestripe, he wants to be mates with her and so they act as if she is meant to be mates with him because of that.

this is wrong for so many reasons, but i don’t have time to get into all of them nor do i want to. let’s just move onto finleap so i can finish this shit.

finleap meets twigbranch as an apprentice when she joins his clan to be with her father and sister. they get along and twigpaw helps cheer him up when he loses his tail. and when twigpaw finally realizes that she wants to be in thunderclan, finpaw goes with her. later on when they become warriors and get apprentices, he reveals that the only reason why he left with her to thunderclan is because he expected that she’d become mates with him and have his kits.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hh the fuckin fuck dude???? he just automatically assumed that twigbranch would be mates with him … becuase she was nice to him. turns out she fuckin did want to be mates she just didnt want kids when she was like 21. which is pretty normal actually. just ugh why are the writers like this???????????????????????? finleap is the epitome of “men and women cant be friends”. thats it. thats his entire character.

alright so let’s skip a bit. have any of these characters apologized for their actions? no. well kinda. ashfur absolutely hasn’t. in fact his actions are justified in the narrative because “he just loved too much”. bitchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. stalkers tend to be in love with the person they are stalking, does this make it right? is it okay because the stalker just “loved too much”? i’ll leave you with that.

bumblestripe also never apologized. not much else to say there that i haven’t already.

that brings us to finleap. finleap did apologize, kind of. it’s not a good apology and ignores the reason why he thought that he should have babies immediately and guilt tripping his girlfriend. the apology is basically him saying that he shouldnt have asked her so often. that was it. that’s not really an apology.

ugh just, i’m done with this shit. i really hope the next arc doesnt have another one of these type characters because there’s been one per arc since The New Prophecy. ashfur covered both The New Prophecy and Power of Three, bumblestripe got Omen of the Stars and of course, finleap got A Vision of Shadows. there better not be one of these fucks in The Broken Code. i’ll die if there is.

lost stars….

This post will have a bunch a fucking spoilers for the book. don’t wanna be spoiled? leave

so lost stars came out yesterday so i read it and… it was fucking great. easily, by far the best warriors book i’ve read since the og series. it’s probably better than those books but it’s been so long since i read them that i dont want to say lost stars is better than any one of them. now that my hopes are up though i really hope i’m not disappointed.

the things you need to know for the rest of this to make sense is that it seems bramblestar has been possessed and his soul has left his body. shadowpaw received a vision from someone about codebreakers, which included his mother dovewing (she left her clan to be with her current mate and left the clans altogether for a brief period). it is unknown at this time (and i highly doubt it) that shadowpaw’s visions come from starclan. it is widely believed to either be from the dark forest (cat hell) or from a cat with an unaffiliated afterlife such as darktail or sol. shadowpaw has recently started to hear a voice in his head after one of the visions he received early in the book. the voice is that of a tom-cat but nothing else is known.

a possession storyline is cool as fuck and they better go all in with it. shadowpaw being almost like a false prophet would be something entirely new for the series and i love the idea of an evil medicine cat or even a morally grey medicine cat. rootpaw and bristlefrost are currently not very important for the plot, just to show us what’s happening in their clans.

this book was genuinely good. i already feel the stakes of what could happen even with so little information! i was frequently worried about the main characters, mainly shadowpaw because of his unique abilities and how that caused him to be so alone from everyone around him. now that it’s been revealed that it seems rootpaw inherited his father’s power of seeing and talking to the dead, he could comfort shadowpaw and show he isn’t the only special powered cat around the lake.

back to the book’s plot though, it had one! i don’t know about the future but for right now the plot makes sense. the clans cannot reach starclan. they have been cut off somehow. possibly because starclan is unhappy, a starclan cat has turned against the rest of the clans for whatever reason, the dark forest took over, ancestral spirits are angry, or even just as simple as if the moonpool is frozen over they can’t commune with the dead. all that’s known for sure is that starclan and the living clans, can’t interact but somehow shadowpaw continues to get visions/prophecies. while starclan is unreachable the clans are significantly weakened. their ancestors are a great moral support to the clans. as stated without them, they’re barely more than rouges. without starclan the other clans will slowly perish, the sooner they get back to starclan the better they will be.

there are many theories on who is possessing bramblestar and who the voice in shadowpaw’s head is. i’ll make a seperate posts for my theory on those things but to summarize it, i believe that some of the original cats that lived at the lake, the cats that became the tribe in the mountains that later became the clans in the forest, those ancestors are angry that the clans are here and how their rules and life are so different to the way they lived that they think that their code is “broken” and needs fixing.

i probably said too much there but whatever, i’m hyped, who gives a shit.

this book also made sure to focus on relationships. familial, platonic, and romantic, were all shown in the book and that’s amazing because previously that’s rarely happened. rootpaw has a great relationship with his sister and parents. although his father frequently embarasses him because of his eccentricness he still admits to his dad why he fell in the lake. rootpaw doesn’t tell the full truth but he does admit that turtlepaw and kitepaw had been taunting and teasing him. tree is the first person that rootpaw tells that he had been taunted and because of that fell in the lake and nearly drowned. because he told the truth, turtlepaw and kitepaw were punished!

bristlepaw also has a good relationship with her siblings but it’s rarely shown as she is most often thinking and interacting with stemleaf, a tom-cat she has a huge crush on. when bristlepaw becomes a warrior, she confesses to stemleaf, thinking he felt the same for her. he apologized and told her that he was actually interested in spotfur. bristlefrost is incredibly embarrased and dissapointed so she holes herself up in the warriors den for at least a day or two before she’s confronted about her sudden reclusive nature. she explains everything to her former mentor, rosepetal, and rosepetal tells her that the same has happened to her and teaches her a healthy way to deal with her emotions.

i cant go into detail about everything in this book that i loved because we’d be here for at least a few days and i don’t have enough time for that but at this point i’d hope that you’d see what i love so much about this book. there isn’t much way for me to compare the writing of this book to others but generally it seemed decent if not good. there is one instance where the authors basically screamed what happened instead of showing of happened, but other than that there wasn’t any instances of telling and not showing or at least ones that weren’t so obvious.

if i were to rate this book it would get at least a 7/10, probably closer to an 8.5/10 or even a 9/10. that might just be because i have such low standards for warriors though. i think that’s it then. time for me to get started on writing about my theories!

Bramblestar = Rabies Boy

so for anyone not in the know, in the blurb for ‘Lost Stars’ the first book in ‘The Broken Code’ arc, it says something like: “Bramblestar starts acting strange after losing one of his nine lives.” and the blurb for ‘Squirrelflight’s Hope’ mentions that Squirrelflight has to choose between the loyalty to her clan and to the warrior code itself. so these two things combined has made it so many fans think bramblestar might get rabies in the next arc. i will be exploring that and seeing if it is likely or not.

the most well-known aspect of rabies is the foaming of the mouth appearance. there is no mention of this but it is only a blurb, plus if they did mention this it would undoubtedly give away the plot which working partners wouldn’t want.

other symptoms of rabies include hydrophobia and aggressive behavior.

bramblestar is from thunderclan so he isn’t fond of water but it’s obviously not a phobia of his. the clans live around the lake and to get to the gathering you must walk within 3 tail-lengths of it (approx. 3 feet). if bramblestar suddenly refused to do that it would raise questions because every cat follows this rule and if he didn’t, windclan could become hostile because if thunderclan doesn’t stay within the 3 tail-lengths they would trespass on windclan territory which could start a long series of battles. hopefully harestar has a working brain and wouldn’t immediately jump to war but who knows. nobody has a consistent character in this series.

but hydrophobia isn’t even remotely mentioned in either blurb. we can’t rule it out just yet if he does have rabies but so far it seems he doesn’t. well let’s move on to aggressive behavior.

as mentioned earlier, bramblestar starts acting strange. that’s very ambiguous. could it mean that he has rabies and his behavior is off? yeah. or it could mean he’s traumatized after losing a life. for dying for the first time. it could also mean that the water creeps him out because he now has hydrophobia as a result of rabies. who knows? but for now let’s just assume that he does have rabies and he’s become aggressive.

why is this important? because bramblestar is one of the more calm characters in the series. he makes decisions with a level-head. they may be dumb decisions, but he at least did them calmly. he knew what he was doing.

rabid animals dont have control of their bodies. they are alive but they can no longer control themselves. that only happens in later stages of rabies but prior to that they will be aggressive and make dumb decisions.

i don’t want this getting too long so i hope i’ve said enough.

Leafpool was unintentionally written as a lesbian

so this week’s post is a bit shorter than usual but to be fair, there isn’t a lot of substance to it. next week will (probably) be longer so i guess look forward to that because i’m sure not!

in warriors, when a character is mentioned to be handsome or beautiful there is a reason for it. spottedleaf is described as beautiful and several characters found her attractive. but when it comes to leafpool, in her pov she frequently calls mothwing beautiful and stunning yet there’s no reason for this. mothwing isn’t involved in any romance. so why does she do this?

because she’s a fucking lesbian obviously. is there an entire arc and prophecy about her getting together with some guyyeah but that can easily be explained as either internalized lesbophobia or heteronormativity.

there really isn’t any reason as to why leafpool constantly thinks mothwing is beautiful, she just does.  to add further proof, leafpool and mothwing are good friends. they always help each other when the other needs help. they have directly disobeyed their leaders to help each other on more than one occasion. they care deeply for each other and are (probably) best friends.

so yeah. that’s like it lol. it’s pretty cut and dry. finding girl attractive when also girl = lesbianism

Twisted by Missio is Darktail’s song, don’t @ me

I did this once before but with People in my Head with Goosefeather and that was really fun so I wanted to do it again! This song almost perfectly matches Darktail and it’s so weird how well it matches up with him. I would be fucking amazed if any of the members of the band read Warriors. I can’t remember when Shattered Sky was released and I also don’t give enough of a shit to check. I also don’t know when Twisted was released but again, I don’t give enough of a shit to look it up. Anyway it’s eerie how this song matches up with him so well even though they (likely) have absolutely no connection to each other.

My mother, she told me, “don’t get in trouble”
My father, he told me he knew I would
My brothers, they told me, “don’t give a damn”
My sister, she told me to do something good

Smoke, Darktail’s mother, wouldn’t want him fighting in his youth. Although she taught him to hate the Clans, she wouldn’t want him beating others up and possibly getting injured because of it. He was her baby and she would want no harm to come to him. Smoke taught Darktail to hate the Clans because his father, Onewhisker (now Onestar), was a Clan cat and he rejected him. It is entirely accurate that Onewhisker would tell him that he would do bad things if he had been around. Onewhisker is a piece of trash, it’s possible that he did tell Smoke that their kits would be evil or something along those lines. We know that Smoke gave birth to a whole litter of kits. It’s unknown how many she gave birth to but Darktail was the only one to survive. Maybe he hallucinated his dead siblings and what they would’ve been like if they had survived.

I’m uncontrollable, emotional
Chaotically proportional
I’m visceral, reloadable
(I’m crazy, I’m crazy, I’m crazy, I’m crazy)

Darktail, when enraged, is uncontrollable and inconsolable. Emotionally, he’s fucked. He decides to find the Clans after his Smoke dies. This undoubtedly added to his already unstable emotions. Darktail acts instinctively also. When he is disrespected he lashes out. This often leads to someone being mutilated or dead. In ‘Thunder and Shadow’ Darktail tears out one of Rain’s eyes after he talks back. It is shown that Darktail barely stops himself from killing him then and there. All of this put together, yeah you could call him crazy.

“Everybody in the world knows I’m a little twisted thing, twisted thing” x4

When Darktail first finds SkyClan he slowly gains their trust before attacking them and killing their deputy, among several warriors. That’s when the entirety of SkyClan known he’s twisted. He then stays in the gorge and then Alderpaw, Sparkpaw, Molewhisker, Cherryfall, and Needlepaw find them. Alderpaw doesn’t trust him and they leave. Darktail follows them and slowly gains most of ShadowClan’s favor. It’s when he forces Rowanstar to leave and give up his Clan to him that Alderheart realizes that Darktail is twisted. I could go on.

My mother, she told me, “don’t be a quitter”
My father, he told me he knew I was
My brothers, they told me, “do what you do”
My sister, she told me to do something good

“Kill the Clans, she said.”

“It’ll be easy, she said.”

Smoke raised Darktail to destroy the Clans. To get revenge for how she was treated. She didn’t want him to quit, and he didn’t. Darktail at this point was at least old enough to learn to fight, and trained and trained to be strong so he could destroy the Clans once and for all. Again, Onewhisker is a fucking asshole (not unlike Tyler) and would undoubtedly say this shit to his son. And again, Darktail possibly hallucinated his dead siblings.

I’m uncontrollable, emotional
Chaotically proportional
I’m visceral, reloadable

whatever fuck you cunts im done with this shit. leave me the fuck alone now

Oceans on Mars: People in My Head is a great song for Goosefeather

We all know Goosefeather. Or I hope we all know him. He’s one of the few ThunderClan medicine cats to actually choose to be one! Although it didn’t go exactly as he would’ve liked. Anyway, that’s not the point of this post. There’s this song that I like that fits Goosefeather pretty fucking well if you ask me. So I’m going to go through the song, lyric by lyric, and tell you why I think it fits him.

Why Sandstorm should’ve been leader

This post definitely isn’t an excuse to talk about my Sandstar Au. Nope. Definitely not. And it’s not even a Sandstar Au! It’s a Med-Cat! Firepaw Au where Sandstorm just so happens to become leader. Also please excuse my good grammar, i’m just in the mood for it.

Why should have Sandstorm become leader instead of Fireheart? Because she fucking deserves. Yeah I love my little Sunboy but he isn’t deserving to be leader. The whole “Fire alone will save our Clan” doesn’t make sense. Or more accurately doesn’t matter at all. Firestar didn’t kill Tigerstar, he didn’t even remotely save ThunderClan or any of the other Clans to boot! That prophecy is meaningless and just an excuse for him to become leader. And yeah in canon he’s a great leader but he didn’t have to be leader to still have done what he did. He could’ve been deputy and nothing would’ve changed.

So why Sandstorm and not Graystripe or Dustpelt? Because she’s the most capable out of them, she deserves to be leader more than them, and she’s very similar to Bluestar so her becoming leader after her would be very satisfying for readers. Or at least it would be for me and I’m the only one who really matters.

How are Sandstorm and Bluestar similar? Here I’ll make a nice bulleted list.

  • Both had well respected fathers
  • Both had a parent die while they were an apprentice

Okay so that isn’t a lot but it’s not my fault that canon is shit. In canon Sandstorm doesn’t mourn her father at all even though realistically speaking that isn’t likely. Especially with the fact that Dustpaw, her father’s apprentice, mourns him. Yet she doesn’t. There’s a lot of potential for Bluestar and Sandstorm to be very similar even though canonically they aren’t.

So we should start with the similarities from Bluestar’s side.

Bluestar’s father, Stormtail, is seen to be a well respected warrior. So much so, that when PInestar leaves the Clan to become a kittypet because he’s seen the future and it’s shit, Stormtail is frequently mentioned as a possible contender for deputyship. Although he doesn’t get the role many cats still look up to him. By the time Tawnyspots is close to retiring, he is still thought of as a good candidate even though he is well past his prime.

Going back to when Bluestar was just an apprentice known as Bluepaw, well we all know what happened to Moonflower. In case you need a refresher, Moonflower was killed when ThunderClan attacked WindClan’s camp because Goosefeather had another future vision event and thought that’s what they needed to do to survive. Bluepaw watched as she died and cried over her corpse. And just generally cried about her death everywhere and anytime.

How does this match up with Sandstorm? Pretty well actually. Here’s Sandstorm’s side.

Sandstorm’s parents are Redtail and Brindleface. Plus Runningwind if you ship RunningRed. Redtail is the deputy of ThunderClan. The deputy of a Clan is usually well respected. In fact I can’t think of a single instance where the deputy wasn’t well respected. Well I guess out of every deputy in the series, Redtail had a certain cat who certainly wasn’t a fan. Redtail was murdered by Tigerclaw, shortly before the start of the first book. Sandpaw was only around 6-8 moons of age when this happened.

For the rest of this I’ll act as if Sandstorm was actually effected by her father’s death and so it might not stick as close to canon as the rest of this has so just go with it. Canon sucks lol.

Both Bluestar and Sandstorm had tragic childhoods, which shaped them as people. Both can be seen as having trust issues. Sandpaw hates Firepaw and is only friendly with Dustpaw, her father’s former apprentice. After Moonflower dies, Bluepaw suffers a major depressive episode. Bluestar very clearly has depression, that’s a post for another day, but I could also see how Sandstorm might also have depression. Now I haven’t read TPB in a long time but from my memory (and interpretation of the text) she shut herself out from everyone. Having a cold attitude towards everyone, other than Dustpaw and assumingly Brindleface. Sandstorm and Brindleface never interact in the series to my memory but perhaps they did offscreen?

Sandstorm walks in Bluestar’s footsteps, even more so if she were to be deputy and eventually leader. The “Fire alone can save our Clan” prophecy is pretty much bullshit. There’s no reason why Firestar was special. He just was. If he had killed Tigerstar it wouldn’t feel as satisfying. I can think of three other characters who would’ve been much more satisfying to kill Tigerstar off the top of my head.

Goldenflower for one. Her ex-husband indirectly killed her firstborn. Because of him, their son would always be prejudiced against simply because they looked similarly. You could even say that her brother was killed because of his actions, though that one might be a stretch.

Whitestorm because they were said to have been close friends and that Tigerclaw’s disloyalty broke Whitestorm’s heart. When Fireheart becomes leader, his first choice of deputy is Whitestorm. It’d be interesting to see how at the start of the series Whitestorm and Tigerclaw were both well respected senior warrior who both had hopes of becoming leader, but by the end one had become leader by being a ruthless killer while the other waited patiently for his chance.

But the best person to kill Tigerstar is Sandstorm. Which I believe I might’ve already explained why but I’m lazy so I’m not going to reread through all of this just to find something I may or may not have written. Sandstorm should’ve killed Tigerstar because he killed her parents, seriously injured her sisters, all of which  resulted in plenty of trauma that she deserves to inflict onto him.

Okay that might be a bit harsh but hey, he deserves it.

I have more to say but it’d probably just be repeating what I’ve already said which I think I might’ve already done. So by now I would hope that you’re on my side. I love Fireheart but he had no reason to be leader. Well not a justified reason. Sandstorm should’ve taken his place or at the very least, he should’ve made her his deputy.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

justice for mapleshade

just fucking go with it lol, this is why mapleshade isn’t evil

mapleshade had every right to murder ravenwing, frecklewish, and appledusk.

all three of those cats, contributed to the murder of her kits. now, i don’t know about you, but if i had kids, and someone let them drown in a river, i’d fucking murder them. and that’s exactly what mapleshade did. her murders were all completely justified, it doesn’t help that mapleshade is one of the very few characters to actually display characteristics of being mentally ill. she isn’t actually schizophrenic, but she does hallucinate her dead children, so take that as you will.

but back to mapleshade, a brief summary of her story is that she had half-clan kits which is a big no-no. especially because at the time her kits were born, the father of her kits, appledusk, a riverclan warrior, had just killed the thunderclan leader’s son.

mapleshade claimed that birchface, the warrior who was murdered by her mate, was the father of her kits. ravenwing, her clan’s medicine cat, found out the truth and told oakstar, their leader. the truth being revealed, mapleshade and her kits were banished. they flee to riverclan but on the way her kits die. mapleshade gets to riverclan and she is banished, again. so mapleshade decides to kill the cats who wronged her most.

she killed ravenwing, the cat who revealed everything. she killed frecklewish, for letting her kits drown. and she killed appledusk, the shitty-ass father of her kits who cheated on her while she was pregnant and gives no fucks about her or their dead children.

she got revenge on some terrible cats and she shouldn’t have been punished for it. all of these cats should’ve gone to the dark forest instead of going to starclan. mapleshade did nothing wrong and doesn’t deserve to rot in hell.

mapleshade should’ve haunted bluestar 2k18

it would’ve been cool if mapleshade haunted bluestar or they had at least some connection, they’re really similar

  • having half-clan kits, the father being from riverclan.
  • losing their kits. bluestar gave up her kits to be deputy, and mosskit died on the way. mapleshade’s kits drowned in the river
  • both show signs of being mentally ill. bluestar very clearly has depression and mapleshade hallucinated her kits’ bodies.
  • both have heavy ties to water. bluestar contrasts fireheart, he is the fire and she is the water. she drowns saving him. mapleshade’s kits drowned in the river. both had half-riverclan kits. in “the ultimate guide” mapleshade is listed under riverclan and not thunderclan.
  • this isn’t really about them but their leaders were related. mapleshade’s leader was oakstar, bluestar’s leader was pinestar. oakstar is pinestar’s father.

mapleshade haunted crookedstar, a descendent of appledusk, so why not haunt bluestar? bluestar was able to hide the truth of her kits because she was loved. mapleshade couldn’t hide it, she lied about the true father but it was found out and she was driven out. bluestar is everything mapleshade wanted to be. she hid the nature of her kits and gave them to the father so they could never be used against her. she was able to achieve her dream of becoming leader. sure mapleshade has never shown ambition to become leader but who doesn’t want to be leader?

why wouldn’t mapleshade haunt bluestar instead? bluestar suffers with depression so she’d be a lot easier to convince and manipulate. crookedstar believed what mapleshade told him but that was only because he was only a kit when she started manipulating him. if she’d waited until he was an adult it never would’ve worked. whereas anytime with bluestar would’ve worked. depression doesn’t just go away, it sticks. especially when basically everyone you’ve ever loved has died.

mapleshade should’ve haunted bluestar. it’d be more interesting to watch a beloved leader like her slip to the dark side. which she did do in the books but that was pure depression, it just would be cool if mapleshade helped her to sink more and more because we never get enough mapleshade. she’s the one and only female villain, give me more!

bluestar x mapleshade is my new crackship lol
